FAQs

Pilates Philosophy emerged with Joseph Pilates’ 1954 book, ‘Return to Life‘. He named his movement regime ‘Contrology’ and was presented as a prescription to counteract the effects of stress and lack of exercise.

This unique System of Movement is designed as a corrective exercise modality to mitigate the effects of sitting, poor posture, movement biomechanics, as well as inevitable ageing.

  • Just like there are different kinds of dance such as modern, tap and ballet, there are also different styles of Pilates. Even though Joe Pilates invented it, many teachers who came after him changed, modified and sometimes completely omitted some exercises. Contrology was the original and the most effective work and it stands apart from other ‘takes’ on Pilates.

  • The original Pilates Method, Contrology, was centred on exercises that could be done anywhere using a Mat. There were no barriers to entry, and anyone from any socioeconomic background could learn all 34 exercises. Pilates equipment was invented to help connect people to these exercises more and to further support and address issues that the Mat exercises invariably point out such as hypermobility, stiffness, reduced range of motion, stability and strength issues, etc. Follow this link to learn Contrology and do Pilates anywhere.

  • Depending on the severity of the injury or pain, most people with back pain can learn the Contrology technique to better manage pain and prevent recurrence. These sessions will help you understand the underlying causes and symptoms (back pain) and prevent further complications or help to avoid injury altogether.
